This page is dedicated to proving who Harriet Matilda Cook's parents really are. Most indications I've found are that Elihu Cook and Sarah Cooley are her parents. But solid proof has yet to been found. This page will hopefully be constantly updated with new information. The best way to find out information is to email me with any questions.

The information below is a short summary of information about Harriet Matilda Cook from family records, and of her possible relationships to Elihu, Sarah, and Merriman.

From family records we are pretty sure that she had a brother named Merriman Cook. Oscar Stoddard recorded his birth as being about 1797 and his death being about 1856.

So getting back to the evidence that Elihu Cook could be Harriet's father. There are a few different reasons for this assumption. The most compelling may be this entry from page 703 of the History of Wallingford Connecticut.

Elihu Cook, son of Merriman and Mary Cook, married Sarah Cooley, of Wallingford, in 1798. He died in 1855, age 79 years. She died several years since. He was a hatter at Ballston, Saratoga Co., N. Y.
Children: 662 Eliza, m Mr. Davis; 663 Harriet; 664 Merriman, supposed to be now living at Syracuse, N. Y.

Merriman, the son of Elihu was from Saratoga, New York, and moved to Onondaga County, where he remained probably until his death after 1880. He is easily traced through the US federal censuses. We are currently researching the children of this Merriman Cook to try and find any information that would directly link his family to our Harriet.
